My friend Ce has been involved in my music for nearly 15 years now and was an original member of the band After the Poets which broke up over 10 years ago. She was keen to reconnect with our friendship and music and wanted to sing on these songs. She has a marvellous skill for inventing harmonies and we have sung a lot together. Over the years, we have learned eachothers' ways of singing and arranging music very well. She is also very good at mastering the tricky art of singing harmony close to the original delivery of a line.
My partner Sarah also wanted to play Cello on some of the songs. She is a very good musician with an intuitive ear, and often adds a restful end to our day playing Bach French Suites on the piano. It has meant a lot to me for us to play together on this music and discuss these songs. Sarah is very good at discerning what is really needed and what can be discarded, which is often painful, but spot on. I always want to fill the glass to overflowing, and Sarah likes to see an empty glass first? Different personality types?
